Socialism in our schools...

After a cancelled school day on Friday February 12th, today the school had their valentines day parties to make up for the day they missed. My wife and I are very annoyed right now however at how the school deals with the giving out of Valentines cards, and I think this is now common in every school.

Our grandson is in second grade and he has a person in his class he really does not get along with. They fight a lot, get in trouble a lot, you just can't put them together. When it came time for making up his Valentines cards, we suggested he leave this boy out because they are not friends and we don't want him dealing with this other boy any longer. Every other person in the class had a card made up for Valentines Day.

Today, my wife gets a call from his teacher saying he is there in tears because he didn't make this one card out for the boy he doesn't like, and therefore, he can't take part in any gift exchanges in class. They do this so no child leaves in tears because they didn't get a card from someone, yet they put our grandson in tears for not being able to participate.

This has to be one of the dumbest rules for a class on Valentines Day. Even if you hate someone, you still have to give them a card in order to get one from your own friends? I remember when I was in elementary school and you never expected to get a card from everyone in class, that was part of the excitement. You wondered if you would get that card from the person you liked, or maybe from a secret admirer. That was the FUN of Valentines Day when I was a child. Now it just sucks. It's another type of socialism being taught to our children in school. Everyone is a winner, everyone is loved by everyone so we all get cards *gags*. This is just another way our children are being taught to think everyone is equal, when we all know damn well they are not.

We would love to make enough money so we can both quit our jobs and home school our grandson. This way he can be taught the way all American children should be taught, the way it was done originally. Things just keep going downhill for our way of life, makes me wonder what's next......

Snow be gone!

This is perfect Texas weather for you. If you don't like the weather, wait till tomorrow. 2 days ago we had a record setting snowstorm. If you saw the area today you'd call me a liar. It's all gone!

There is a little snow left in some spots like in shaded areas on the ground, but other than that, the grass is green again. I was out driving today doing some errands, and the snow was melting so fast, there were rivers running down the roads and waterfalls running off the rooftops.

This is good though, because it really gets the ground a good soaking before it starts to get warm outside in another couple of months.

For a location we only normally see 1 snowy day per year, we have gotten at least 3 this season. What global warming?

Snowmageddon Hits Texas

Ok, so it's not exactly Snowmageddon by many people's standards, but for this region, the snow that fell today is not something you see every year..... or every decade for that matter.

It started this morning before dawn as rain and snow mixed together here in Granbury. It didn't build up too much because it kept melting, however, for areas a little further north of us, the snow built up very rapidly. In Weatherford, about 20 minutes north of us, they have gotten close to 8 inches of snow and it is still coming down as I write this. Here in Granbury, where the snow stuck, I can see maybe about 2 inches so far.

Here is a short video I took of the snow falling here. This is something that you maybe see once per year here in this area of Texas, but so far this year, we have seen at least 3 mini-snowstorms.

After the sun goes down tonight, that is when the problems will start. It is going to be cold tonight, well below freezing, so all the roads will ice-up and we don't have a lot of equipment that can remove ice and snow from roads very well. I have to be in work for 5am tomorrow, it may be a "fun" drive, guess I better leave early.

Pet Peeve's

Today I just wanted to talk about my 2 biggest pet peeves. These are things I see all the time these days and every time I do, it just annoys the heck out of me.

My first and probably biggest pet peeve is being directly lied to, especially by a reputable corporation. When things are promised to you by a certain date on the calendar, that day should NOT go by and have nothing happen.

This has happened many times. We get promised things by a certain date, that date comes and goes, and the item promised is never received. If you can't promise something by a certain day, just tell me the TRUTH. I respect someone a hundred times more if they just come to me and say "You know what? We are not sure when we can get that to you but we are working hard on getting it there soon." Why can't they just say that?

One other issue that goes hand-in-hand with this one is being "left in the dark." This is when there is a complete lack of communication about something important. At work, I have seen plans change repeatedly without anyone saying what the deal is. Some explanation can do wonders for morale.

My second pet peeve is when someone seriously thinks they are better than you and they flaunt it publicly. I just don't like this kind of attitude because it brings down the mood of people. There is no need to flaunt your strengths making everyone else look weak. There is nothing to gain from this and in many cases it actually is not true. Vanity is the devil's favorite sin. Help your colleagues be better at what they do rather than show them how much they suck at it and everyone wins.

Perfect World

No, I'm not talking about our real world. You all know it is FAR from perfect. I am actually talking about an MMORPG. What is unique about this one is it is a free to play or F2P Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (this is what MMORPG stands for by the way :P).

This game has great graphics. They really spent a while in making the game look visually appealing to players. This is important in a free game because you need a hook to make them look further. People have low expectations for free online games, so this helps in a big way. There is a definite Asian theme to the graphics and music, however the music is more modern and upbeat, but definitely Asian.

There are 4 different races to choose from and each one has 2 classes to play as. This results in 8 different classes or jobs to play the game as. From Mages, to Barbarians, to Rogues, all the classic types are here and each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Each class can also solo very well for the most part, but ones without healing magic may need to rest every few fights.

I have built myself up to level 18 and I am still very new to the game, but from what I have seen so far, this is a great choice if you want to play something but you don't have the money to play one of the more mainstream games like World of Warcraft, or Final Fantasy XI etc. There are many quests which really help you level and they break up the grind a bit as well.

Managers in Retail

I just had to share this. The other day at the grocery store, I was in one of the aisles looking at something when over the loudspeaker I heard, in a very loud voice, a manager ordering one of his associates to the very aisle I was in. I looked over a few feet and there was the associate standing there right in the middle of the aisle he was just ordered to report to.

He just looked at me, shrugged and remarked "I hate my boss".

This is not out of the ordinary in retail. I completely sympathized with him. Sometimes when you are in a store and you hear an order barked over the intercom, there is a good chance the person being ordered around is already working on that. Sometimes managers just don't check before they manage.

This has happened to me before as well. I was working in the paint department helping a customer by mixing some paint. I had just left the desk to get the can I needed from the aisle, when over the intercom I hear "customer needs assistance at the paint desk, customer is waiting for assistance at the paint desk". I look back and the person I was helping is the only one there, and they kind of shrank away wondering what that was all about. The manager who paged it was just exiting the door as well, so he didn't even wait to see what happened.

I know it's just them doing their job trying to be sure they cover their butt, however, they can have their own mind sometimes. It can do wonders.

Our bodies have everything we need

Lately I am seeing a trend with new health drinks, or health supplements.
